Dear Globalaw friends and colleagues,We are pleased to welcome you to the 2024 Globalaw Americas Regional Meeting, being held in Vancouver, British Columbia from June 5 to 8, 2024.Beautiful British Columbia is truly spectacular. Located on the West Coast of Canada, Vancouver is framed by mountains on one side and the ocean on the other. The natural beauty of the city is breathtaking, and Vancouver is a gateway to experience the outdoors. Vancouver is also a contemporary city, which is known for its cultural diversity, a multitude of excellent restaurants serving all kinds of gastronomies, and leading businesses in the technology, banking, natural resources and other sectors.For thousands of years, the Coast Salish peoples have called the area now known as “Vancouver” home, and their history and cultural traditions, deep respect for nature, and spirituality are all tightly woven into the city’s cultural fabric. In acknowledgment of the history and culture of the Indigenous peoples, the 2024 Globalaw Annual Regional Meeting will start with a welcoming ceremony from members of the Squamish Nation.The hotel for the meeting is the Fairmont Pacific Rim, which is one of the preeminent hotels in Vancouver and is conveniently located in the downtown core, next to the water and many top restaurants and bars. Nearby are many spots for exploration, including Stanley Park, with its old-growth cedar forests surrounded by water views and sandy beaches, and the Granville Island Public Market. Other popular neighbourhoods include the West End, Gastown and Yaletown.The business sessions will be held at the Vancouver Club, which is a short three-minute walk from the hotel. The Vancouver Club has a unique role in the history of the city as one of the primary social organisations for many of the city's and the province’s most prominent citizens, including leaders in business and political affairs. The Vancouver Club survives as one of the few private clubs left in Vancouver.The business sessions will feature discussions and presentations on how member firms can better collaborate within the network and leverage Globalaw for their benefit. As well, in addition to some law firm management topics, we will discuss emerging trends like AI, ESG and the new corporate transparency requirements. We are also excited to welcome our keynote speaker, Ryan Walter, who is a former professional hockey player and renowned speaker on leadership development and professional corporate performance.You are encouraged to take part in the social events that are scheduled. They are a great way to build relationships and network with your colleagues. We will have the chance to take a 1,200 metre skyride to the peak of Vancouver’s Grouse Mountain to experience exquisite views of the city from above and, on the Saturday, experience a whale watching tour to see resident killer whales, humpback whales and other marine wildlife, such as sea lions, seals and bald eagles.Vancouver is an experience you will not forget.
